As the Maryville Farmers' Market prepares for another season, it seems like Spring can't get here fast enough. After a winter of mealy tomatoes and dull, waxy produce purchased at the grocery store from far away lands, I am long overdue for some fresh, flavorful herbs and veggies.
On the other hand, as I look out at my fields it seems that there are not enough hours in the day nor warm, dry days in the week to do all the work that has to be done before we can all devour those long sought after, colorful delicacies of the spring and summer.
The bee hive need tending, the garden needs to be turned over one more time. The hutches and sheds need a fresh coat of paint to restore them from the abuses of winter. It's all enough to make me sit back and reminisce about the rolling hills that are home to our community here in East Tennessee.
It will be great to see everyone again at the Farmers' Market. Until then we better get busy!
See you April 21st!
